Discover Moraga’s Hidden Gem: Sunday Morning Farmer's Market

If you're looking for a way to ease into your Sunday morning while soaking up some local flavor, Moraga’s Farmer's Market is the place to be. Tucked away in the heart of this charming East Bay town, the market offers a little slice of everything that makes this community so special. Whether you're new to the area or just haven't had a chance to visit, here's why this local treasure should be on your weekend to-do list.

A Sunday Tradition Worth Starting

Every Sunday from 9 AM to 1 PM, Moraga's Farmer's Market comes to life with a delightful mix of fresh produce, artisan goods, and friendly faces. Located in the parking lot of the Moraga Shopping Center, just off Moraga Road, the market is a hub of activity that draws locals and visitors alike.

One of the first things you'll notice when you arrive is the abundance of color. Stalls are overflowing with vibrant fruits and vegetables—think crisp apples, juicy peaches, and leafy greens straight from nearby farms. The farmers are always happy to chat about their produce, and what type of farming they practice. You will find several vendors who don’t advertise an organic label but practice mostly organic farming so don’t hesitate to ask!

Some of our weekly favs?

  • Fresh loaf of sourdough bread with oysters and shrimp ceviche
  • Fresh Ahi tuna to BBQ at home (their seafood is so fresh and legit!)
  • Piping hot Tamales with marinated cabbage/jalapeño slaw
  • Strawberry-chocolate crêpes
  • Artichoke-jalapeño hummus, Mediterranean olives & couscous or beet salad
  • Kettle corn, hot and fresh off the kettle
  • Stone fruit & berries in the summer (samples often abound at these vendors!)
Is your mouth watering yet? I know mine is just typing this!

More Than Just Produce

But Moraga's Farmer's Market isn't just about fruits and veggies. You’ll find an array of vendors selling everything from freshly baked bread and pastries to handcrafted cheeses and gourmet spreads. Whether you're after a warm croissant to enjoy as you
stroll through the market or a unique jar of locally-grown honey to take home, there's something for every palate.

Don’t forget to explore the artisanal section, where local craftsmen showcase their creations or homegrown creations. From natural skin care products to locally grown plants, these stalls are perfect for finding a unique gift or just treating yourself to
something special.

Community at its Core

What really sets Moraga’s Farmer's Market apart is the sense of community. It’s a place where neighbors catch up over coffee, families enjoy a leisurely morning together, and newcomers quickly feel at home. The market usually features live music, adding to the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. You might find a local guitarist strumming mellow tunes or a folk band providing the perfect soundtrack for your Sunday browsing.

For those with little ones, the market is a family-friendly outing with plenty of space to wander and kid-sized picnic tables. Kids can enjoy the sights and sounds, and many vendors offer kid-friendly snacks and treats.

Tips for Your Visit

If you’re planning to check out the market, here are a few tips to make the most of your visit:

  • Arrive early: The best produce and baked goods tend to go fast, so getting there closer to 9 AM ensures you have the pick of the crop.
  • Bring cash: While many vendors accept cards, cash can make transactions quicker and smoother. And some (like the Mexican food stand) offer a discount for cash.
  • Make it a morning: Grab a coffee from one of the nearby cafés and take your time exploring the market. It’s a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely start to your day. And if you happen to rush in at the last minute like we often do (yikes!) vendors are usually happy to serve you as able while they’re packing up, and you can even sometimes find a deal (gotta love a deal!) from a food vendor happy to lighten their load.
So, whether you're a seasoned East Bay resident or a newcomer eager to discover what the area has to offer, Moraga's Farmer's Market is a must! Come for the fresh produce, stay for the community vibes, and leave with a basket full of local goodness.

See you Sunday!
